Re: Imperial College Newspaper, Felix, Report about the SES

Mikew - There are some people who attended within the last 10 years but I don't think they actively post right now.

I left 14 years ago and while some things have changed based on what people have posted who have attended since, I'd say that it's mostly the paint that's changed but not the canvas.

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

I haven't heard of it before but I'm sure some of our Aussie members have. It's not directly part of the SES/School of Philosophy, as there is one already in Sydney. YOu can compare their course content via their website: http://www.practicalphilosophy.org.au/ However, they do sound very similar, an...

Re: The Story of the School of Economic Science by B Hodgkin

While this forum has helped me realise that this is not a justified opinion, am I alone in my concern that people who are becoming concerned about the SES/SoP's effect on them might read this book and be led to feel (just as the SES have tried to make me feel) that it is MY problem that I feel this...

Re: Parenting

I find the quote "the destructive nature of idleness" amusing, as I'm sure that when as a child (starting from 7 years) I was made to sit through adult SES classes, rarely with any idea what was going on, was when I learnt how best to keep myself look as though I was listening attentively...

I hope included in the price of the classes is a voucher towards all of the future therapy the children will need. Goodness knows I could do with some more but I can't afford it.

Re: DOES SCIENTOLOGY CONTROL 'Whyaretheydead' Domain?

::shrugs:: When I click on the links, I see several ads related to Scientology.

I'm a firm believer in the craziness of Scientology but I think in this instance you are reading something that isn't there.

Re: DOES SCIENTOLOGY CONTROL 'Whyaretheydead' Domain?

The site no longer exists. When you go to the URL of a domain name that is not run by anyone, the company that owns it accepts advertising bots so that there's a chance it will earn some money from people who come there. When I click on it, I see links to Amazon.com, a course to learn German, info a...

Re: NYC School of Practical Philosophy

Hi Mikew, Here is the first thread I started once I came out of lurking on this forum: There are several off topic posts but read through the whole thing for some specific examples. http://www.ses-forums.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=266&hilit=nyc+sopp You can search through my posts if you like b...

Re: NYC School of Practical Philosophy

Hi Mike, I was raised in that school and attended as an "adult" member from 14 to 19. Then I got the hell out of there and have been dealing with the ramifications of my upbringing ever since, mostly successfully, but with a lot of hard work on my part. I would guess that you are in the po...

Re: Thank you for warning me...

Hi there! Welcome to the forum! I don't have much time now but I wanted to let you know that I took that course 17 years ago in a different country, and my experience was exactly the same as yours. From the wierd sexist dynamic between tutor and "assistant" to the stupid doily. Only I was ...

Re: The SES and mental health problems

I also agree. I suffered depression in high school and college and have had lifelong work in order to try to recover from the emotional destruction growing up in the school caused me. Amazingly, I went to therapy for a year at the end of high school and never once did I bring up the school. I was st...

Re: Ficino School - New Zealand

Hi Mr. Blobby, I also have no direct experience with the Ficino School. Nor did I attend the SES children's school in the US, where I'm from, because it didn't exist yet. However, I was born into and raised in the School in NYC until I left independently at age 19. I read through most of the text, F...

Re: Mrs L

I just wanted to put in a good word for Mrs L. I did not know her personally, just through her being around, although she did come to talk to my group once. I found her to be a delightful creature, gentle and kind and genuinely a lovely lady - hard working too. She was married very young too I thin...

Also, See You in Court, I believe you were already asked not to simply post block quotes from other people without engaging in discussion, but I'm going to restate that here. If you want to share something for us to read, please include a short quote and then link to where we can read the rest rathe...

Re: Us gay folk...

I guess early conditioning is hard to overcome. I don't really know, I never really had any. Or none that I couldn't fairly easily overturn. I have some gay friends who are currently having the time of their lives travelling. They gave up their jobs (almost on the spur of the moment), rented out th...
