Yes, the St J/SES diet. I remember the spread on the table. A selection of cheeses including cottage cheese, celery, brown bread, butter, apples, pears, butter, honey and if we were really lucky, the yoghurt, which has been mentioned before.... 'was there anything to it other than it's skin?' I thin...

Oh, ps. I was in the St J choir for a while and actually enjoyed it. I had thought that if you were classically trained as a musician or vocalist you'd have a natural appreciation for classical music. I never had lessons with a musical instrument so i thought this was another reason I didn't feel an...

Aversion to Classical Music
It's a terrible thing to have to confess but I have a very low threshold for classical music which I think is a result of my St J/SES upbringing. Does anyone else get this? I can hear that it's beautiful music and, believe me, music has a profound effect on me, but I don't own a single classical CD ...

conventional versus alternative remedies is a biggun, but I do find that arnica cream works. Heaven knows I have to use it for my (v young) kids all the time (part of my first aid kit I carry). All the mums i know swear by it, none of them anything to do with SES. oh, and teething powder is fantasti...

Interesting thread, Freethinker. I'm sorry to hear your vision of men and women started out on a bad note as a result of these influences. I've been reading some very interesting accounts of how women are treated differently to men in the school (like the case of the 50 women in the 70's). I'd forgo...

I just wanted to add that those who were onlookers (re the epilleptic attack) and did nothing - i can fully understand what sort of pressure and atmosphere there must have been at the time and even though you realise it was far from ideal to have let it happen, please don't beat yourselves up about ...

Wow it's remarkable how much of this I'd forgotten about. Thankyou to those who submitted their accounts through Leon. The story of the guy with epillepsy beggars belief but it's not out of the ordinary for SES. Such is the ego of the tutor in that case. (I thought the ego and 'Big Red Me' were part...

many thanx for responses and warm welcome from freethinker. Some very interesting points - and thanx for providing meanings of the sanskrit word, AntonR. Whether or not the teachings specify the cause and effect of bad sanskara (I guess 'karma' is the more mainstream word) I think it highly unwise f...

Anyone remember the Glenn Hoddle faux pas?
It's taken me ages to skim the surface of posts here - time for me is pretty short these days with two small kiddiewinks, but I have been a lurker for a while. Before I get carried away.... As the title suggests....does anyone remember Glenn Hoddle's attempts to spiritualise England football managem...
