Re: NYC School of Practical Philosophy

I found the article... it's the nicest one I've seen, and sums up one of the many reasons I left... it's dead bloody boring!

Re: Thank you for warning me...

Hi Eyesopened. I think it's great you managed to get out so quickly. I spent almost 20 years of my life being mentally twisted by these people. Your description of the room and the tutor with the suit, and the glass on a doilly on a plate, was so accurate and it bought back a load of memories. I com...

Oh and I just remembered, I did see some kids who had to do squats for an extended period of time as a punishment... so there is still a bit of physical punishment...

Re: Ficino School - New Zealand

Hi Mr Blobby. I worked in the Ficino School a few years ago as a student teacher and I was also in the SOP for many many years. Basically, I don't think it's a bad school, but as you yourself noted, the teachers all almost all only qualified with a DIP Ed. The problem I saw when working there was th...

Re: Coming to terms with stupidity

Hi Bluegreen. That's really funny. I'm sure Jesus used to draw confusing diagrams on a chalk board for his disciples in his spare time. I think the SES really does look for proof of them being right everywhere. But there are a few contradictions. They are so prudish and scared of sex and yet they lo...

Re: Us gay folk...

Great idea Woodgreen! I'd love to see Lambie's face as he stands before the court of Human Rights trying to explain what charitable actions his sexist, homophobic and culty organisation have done recently and why they are above the law...

Re: Us gay folk...

I wonder if there is some kind of list somewhere of the different stages you go through after leaving something like the SES. So far I have gone through intense hate, shame, regret (for the few things I did enjoy in the school like friends), back to hate, depression, acceptance doubt (of what I actu...

Re: Us gay folk...

[quote="bonsai]'What is a spiritual experience. Without a doubt the regimes and practices of the SES induce physiological experiences that may or may not be healthy or beneficial. Some people may indeed regard these are spiritual feelings and experiences but how do we know? To me the SES is lik...

Re: Us gay folk...

I agree Bonsai. And what is really scary is that what the SES calls a spiritual path is more a path to complete separation from the real world. If you actually did everything they told you, meditated, got up at 3 or 4 in the morning, only ate fruit, bread and cheese, you'd end up so burnt out that y...

Re: Us gay folk...

Hi Bonsai. Have you ever read Richard Dawkins 'The God Delusion'? It's very interesting. I bought it ages ago but I stopped reading it ages ago because it has a bit of a preachy tone that suggests he's right and everyone else is wrong. It's kind of true, but at the time I didn't like it. Anyway, I j...

Re: Us gay folk...

PS I do accept that it's highly likely that some people will never confront the SES or their role in it for the sheer fear of having to deal with that anxiety. I fear for my parents making such an adjustment should they ever come to realise. Perhaps it is safer that some people stay in rather than l...

Re: Us gay folk...

Hi again... Thanks for your replies, Et, Jo-anne and Bonsai. I just wanted to say a few things before I stay away for awhile from this forum. Reading it has left me seriously stressed out and not sleeping well, and worrying about the fact that I was in cult when I actually didn’t think it was a bad ...

Hi again. Thank you to ET and Bluemoon for your helpful and encouraging replies. I think that finding this forum has changed my life. Re: Us gay folk...

Hello... Well I realise no one has written on this particular thread for a few years, but I think it's the most relevant to me at the moment... I won't say who I am, because I don't want to, but I grew up in a SES family, although, not in London, and I stayed in the school for many years. Only about...
