FORUMS ARE NOW CLOSED

After almost ten years in operation these forums are now CLOSED to new contributions. The forums will remain online for the time being so that all existing posts can continue to be viewed. The hosting of the site is already paid for until 30 September 2014. If at any time in the future I intend to t...

The forums have been reorganised

If you have come to this page via a bookmark formerly pointing to the 'General discussion on SES' forum you will notice some changes. Prior to the closure of this site as an active forum I have created seven new forums. These cover: * St James and St Vedast * The SES generally * The Australian and N...

Housekeeping prior to the closure of this board

In preparation for the forthcoming closure of this board as an active forum I'm doing some housekeeping. I've split the 650+ threads in the 'General discussion on SES' forum into several new forums so that anyone coming across the archive can more easily find discussions relevant to them - e.g discu...

Re: The reference site

The reference site and the forum are hosted through the same service, so the reference material will continue to be available for as long as the (inactive) forum remains online - i.e until late 2014 at the earliest.

Re: Another reason to preserve this site

OK, further to my post above I have found a way of exporting the text of the forum. In fact it replicates the forum exactly as you see it now, with the same look and feel. Private content such as PMs is not included. Also the search facility does not work as searches require the board to be actually...

Re: Another reason to preserve this site

I am looking into a means of exporting the text of the forum. My research so far suggests this will not be a single file. It may take a few days to confirm.

Re: Another reason to preserve this site

I have not investigated exporting forum content to another platform. In the past I saw that some forum software packages allowed databases from different software to be imported, but I very much doubt that any of the proprietary discussion sites like the ones I've mentioned (Yahoo, Facebook) have an...

Re: Another reason to preserve this site

Daffy, am I right in understanding that when Mike Gomez (sp?) chose to stop administering the site, he asked around for someone to take over from him, and you stepped forward? If that is accurate, are you going to do the same and try to pass the baton on to someone else, or facilitate continuity in...

Re: Shutting down

I am open to suggestions on how to preserve existing material. This could be as simple as keeping the forum software up but locked against further activity. I paid the last annual hosting charges only a month ago so that's covered well into next year. Some people may not want their posts to continue...

Shutting down

I've decided to shut the forums down permanently from the end of this year. When I joined these forums under their previous 'whyaretheydead' home almost a decade ago I was one of many ex-St James and St Vedast pupils discussing their experiences. That led to an inquiry by a Q.C. which, despite being...

Re: How Cults Rewire the Brain

From memory there have been at least three users who have mass-deleted their posts, dozens at a time. I didn't do anything previously but I think it has become a problem that needs to be dealt with. This is not 'interference' on my part but simply the application of common sense and etiquette. It's ...

Re: How Cults Rewire the Brain

I think what you're forgetting is that these discussions are conversations between members of a community . Once you participate in a discussion it is not fair on other users to change the record of what you said. This isn't me making up restrictions that are special to this board: it's simply a ref...
