Lucca Leadership

Lucca Leadership Trust certainly involves David Boddy, as it says on the website, who is headmaster of St James Senior School for Boys in London and a long time and very senior member of SES / SOP.

In one of these he describes a school where on the surface healthy debates appear to be encouraged (St James’s philosophy lessons, Headmasters question time etc) but where the pupils’ real questions cannot be asked because they are suppressed. To me it was an exact description of St James. Duri...

I have some worries regarding Mr.Cappers previous involvement with SES, should this be a cause of concern for me? You have no reason to be concerned. I have known Mr and Mrs Capper for quite a few years. They are both completely honest and above-board. Their involvement with SES came to an end some...

SoP in Sydney under the Mavros

During the thirty years I attended SES in the UK, it was "accepted wisdom" that people living in the Southern Hemisphere were more soundly "asleep" than people in the Northern Hemisphere and that the School "discipline" needed to be stricter and stronger in those locations. This was Mr MacLaren's vi...

I think it is fair to assume that Donald Lambie is kept appraised of EVERYTHING that is going on. The Governors of the Day Schools all have a long and close association with SES and would quite naturally want to consult "The Senior Tutor", as he used to be known, and probably still is, and ask his o...

It's not possible to put my feelings in to words after reading Clara's post. There is just no excuse for such heartlessness. I think RachelS is probably right. My wife and I met at an SES Residential, so we were both very much "in school" for many years. However the bullying by one of her tutors bec...

Tom, She mentions that the man was "on the point of retirement" and that he had problems with the senior boys. I would hazard a guess, and it's only a guess, that Colin Russell is the person referred to. He was not very tall, and, I believe, did have difficulty with boys taller than him. If my guess...

The two links above are excellent, and a very well observed description of how things used to be in SES. I say "used to be" because I left SES about 9 years ago, and meeting up recently with someone who used to attend the same group in SES, he assured me that things had changed a lot. Certainly the ...

David Lacey was acting head master while Nicholas Debenham was ill and unable to come to the school. This was for a relatively short period earlier this year, I can't remember the exact dates, before Mr Debenham retired in the summer. I don't think anything different needs to be read in to it. I bel...

It seems to have been confirmed by David Boddy that there will be an inquiry. Hope that all concerned can put this to bed and move on with thier lives. Yes. A letter has been sent to parents explaining about the enquiry and saying that results should be available around Easter. And I would echo the...

Do you think that all teachers would feel comfortable posting on here? Would it not be unproffessional to start making damming comments about where you work on the internet? Any teachers that have supported the school haven't had an easy time of it! Like many people here, including yourself and mys...

The problem with your argument here is that three of the ex-abusers:- Messrs Southwell, Lacey, and Hipshon are still being employed by Mrs Hyde, Mr Boddy, and the governors, at St James today! (Mr Hipshon may no longer be still be working there - somebody please correct me if I'm mistaken!) Yes, I ...

I have just been reading the last few pages of this board and am dismayed at the remarks made about Katherine Watson and her husband. You will not find a man of greater integrity and honesty than my husband ANYWHERE. He is utterly unselfish, modest, kind, gentle, sensitive, generous and loving to al...

Rather than be "Guest with some temerity" , I shall sign my name "Scotsman" If I correctly understand the reason you made this comparison, you feel that the passage of time might allow a new perspective from those who experienced abuse at St James, just as it allowed you to do from your own school e...
