Matthew - am I right in thinking that your father was a governor of St James?

What an interesting story, Ben. I could say more but perhaps it's enough to say how glad I am to have read it

Justice! is practising the kind of mind control that he accuses the SES of perpetrating. One little step leads to another little step (quite often innocuous, reasonable-sounding steps) and all the time he is moving the agenda along. Just look at his posts since he joined. He has not introduced himse...

Thank you for your very reasonable post, Ben, we are not so far apart as may have been thought at first. My observations - as you understood - were about the nature of an inquiry per se. It's commissioned, it is publicised, contributions are invited, evidence is taken and assessed, and the results p...

I would say, rather, it's more like an inquiry being called into, say, a traffic hot-spot. Car-drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, anyone using the road may contribute to that inquiry. Some do but others - who may have been as badly affected - do not. Rather than thank those who did the work, they then ...

Your post, Planet, has made me wonder if I asked the right question. What I was really meaning was - was there any change in discipline/punishments at St James in 1983?

I don't want to upset anyone but I think my point was quite clear - the inquiry was an opportunity for former pupils to record their complaints to an independent chairman. Many chose to do so, setting aside any doubts or fears they may have had in order to bear witness. Everyone had that chance. If ...

Would any former pupils - preferably those spanning the period pre-1983 and post-1983 - like to speak about the differences (if any) in 'excessive corporal punishment' over that period? Also cold showers if it comes to it.

Ben - fires are not usually put out by continuing to stoke them up. For my own part I encouraged former pupils - right from my very first post - to contribute to the enquiry, as I did. This was a one-off inquiry, a unique opportunity and it was important that anything that was to be said was said th...

Without trudging back through the posts before the inquiry I can't say what James Townend's qualifications and experience are. But I seem to recall that they were excellent for this kind of inquiry. No doubt has ever been raised about him as chairman of the inquiry and those who contributed to the i...
