Obviously I don't share the memories many here have, but a few concepts can explain succinctly why people do or don't do things. They are peer pressure/group dynamics and obedience to authority. Peer pressure is a daily occurrence and not bad, it keeps us out of trouble, but it can also be used to s...

Thanks for your thoughtful post, Mike. I asked because Daffy said GB's posts were "supportive of the overall goals of the forum", so I figured there must be some laid out somewhere. A couple of years ago, it was a bit more laissez faire, so I was curious to know what the "goals" are now. You're ver...

Hi Daffy or Mike - could you clarify please? What are "the overall goals of the forum"? I haven't given it a deep thought to be honest. I made the place here in the beginning as a platform for former pupils to meet and to give the occasional current SES member who wrote long letters in my guest boo...

So, Mike, are you saying that the moderators are "hot"? Or only virtually? Or that they'll be gettting hot chocolate milk, which I believe is called hot chocolate :P Me and my silly language. Why oh why, wasn't I born in a god fearing Anglo-Saxon country? :( But to anwer your question; obviosly the...

There is a HECK of a lot of reading here - more pertinant posts do need to have attention to them called. I agree ADG it was a good post and Ben was glad it was bumped, but again, what is to stop current St. James pupils or other groups to bump relevant threads too, they like for a day. A couple of...

Mike, For what it's worth, and wrt your apology in the separate thread you created, I think Nicholas Debenham does not deserve any kind of apology. The man was brutal and sadistic, as evidenced by numerous posts on this board - and by my own experience of an entire primary and secondary 'education'...

Apology to Nicholas Debenham
My apology to Nicholas Debenham for erroneously assuming you were "Teacher C" -- who received the Formal Reprimand by the Governing Body -- in the thread "A personal view from a parent."

Because you have a close tag but did not open the Bella-quote with an opening tag like this
Code: Select all
[quote]
So go back to the post of yours that went wrong, press edit and add
Code: Select all

Yep - messed up the quote bit - Mike do you have a 'Board Usage For Dummies' booklet? There's a FAQ at the top of the page but it does not deal with quoting for some reason. But what Bonsai wrote is good. Basically if you want to learn how BB stuff works then press the "Quote" button next to a post...

Is "Teacher C" Mr Debenham?
I've a question for you all. I think "Teacher C" is Nicholas Debenham because he got specifically cleared of sadism and that was the only mention of sadism in the report: http://www.iirep.com./Report/report.htm When you read here then you see "Teacher C" was cleared of sadism accusations by Townend:...

Howdy Keir, I think that it would be good for Elizabeth to realise that she is not the only parent that has posted and not the only view represented from that quarter. I don't know how else this can be accomplished except by bumping to keep it up there. Suggestions welcome. What the heck would becom...

I understand the inital bump but I am sure SES minded folks can find another thread as well they like in the next week or so and then bump it back to attention for days. I can't say then to them it is not a good idea while I leave critics alone. It would get quite messy when we all start to bump to ...
