And season's greetings to you, Boeing Driver. Good to see them making improvements. 2001 report was damning. Still a tiny school though. The Australian schools seem to be similarly small. Wonder to what extent the percentage of SES/SOP families has changed over time? Suspect that the schools will al...

Re: Bullying and arpatheid in SES schools
Erasmus's web page tells us: http://www.erasmus.vic.edu.au/Home/home/About-Erasmus "The school teaches a Philosophy of Unity." Evidently? And the headmaster assures us that http://www.erasmus.vic.edu.au/Text/1118895023000-1324/From-the-Headmaster "Children thrive in the tranquil, orde...

Re: An interesting book
The SES has always encouraged reference to higher moral authorities despite its claims to encourage reason and discrimination. It is this deference to these wiser authorities that has allowed the abuses that have occurred at St James to happen and for it to side-step and ignore the criticisms throw...

Au contraire Sly_G, That statement doesn't make the connection between the governance of the school and the SES in any way apparent. Moreover, the SES continues to claim that it is not a religeon and that it draws from a wide variety of teachings, despite being fundamentally grounded in Adviata. Thi...

...like I say, it just looks like more of the usual damage limitation. It also highlights a total lack of focus on who the real victims were in all of this. Classic stuff from the SES - find a scapegoat, denounce and ostracise him or her, while deflecting blame from the organisation and its leaders...

I can't believe it! There were a few of us poms cheering for Oz. Not that we need Australia getting a big head about yet another sport. bonsai I can't believe it either (particuarly that you'd cheer for Oz :D ). We were headed for a clash with England in the final (obviously), and the national hubr...

Remarkable. Many thanks to Marco Goldschmied for making the report available. The report and associated correspondence with Townend are compelling reading for anyone associated with the schools (or considering enrolling a child therein), in the UK or around the world. Little has changed in ten years...

Her unique character, her mother Catherine Irvine believes, is attributable to primary education received at Hawthorn's Erasmus School. Nurture triumphing over nature, it would seem. Doesn't ring true to this parent. Isn't character, by definition, unique? Perhaps I'm just picking at sloppy writing...

Cult-like similarities
Saw the Channel 4 documentary by Mark Dowd on Opus Dei last night, and was struck by numerous similarities in the apparent behaviour of the Catholic sect and the SES/SEOS/SOP (tick where applicable). These included lack of transparency, charismatic founder revered as a benevolent father figure, targ...
