Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

Welcome to you Snapper, I respect your opinion on Michael & Nina Mavro and their school, and this obviously is the 'view' that you saw and trusted. I agree with your comment that the school plays a part in making us better human beings and can open your eyes to start to see the spiritual life. A...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

Hello to all, Thank you very much Unique, for your most accurate and thoughtful post .. And as Ahamty2 stated ..described to a 't' Unique. You have described everything to a “t”. There is nothing in your post that could be said to be inaccurate or exaggerated. Their behaviour in the SFSK is identica...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

So, this begs the question: what has the SFSK, and specifically Mrs Mavro, got to hide? Why doesn't the SFSK make similar disclosure of its provenance, connection with the Indian guru and Advaita Vedanta, administration, management and funding? Why the secrecy? It really is fascinating but also qui...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

I cannot even imagine what is going on in the mind of this "initiator"? How can someone be manipulated into accepting such a responsibility? The gentleman concerned comes from an employment background characterised by: “you must always obey the boss’s orders without question”. So while hi...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

I have written before about SFSK and the initiation ceremony/mantra. But I am currently reading a book about HH, written by a disciple of his, who has a few books published, mainly devotional poetry .. and I would like to share a story from the book in regard to Guru Mantra. " To highlight the ...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

Hello Babs, Welcome! Thank you very much for sharing your SFSK experiences in such a natural and honest way. I most certainly can relate to everything you say, it is exactly as things are there. And very disturbing indeed .. Is the description you give in your second post in regard to the senior peo...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

Hello Unique, I can't thank you enough for your most thoughtful and sincere post. It says everything, I understand and totally agree with everything you have written. To choose just one quote from your post to highlight ..would be in error, every sentence is perfect. So I choose to quote the whole p...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

Hello Woodgreen and all readers, Yes SFSK through the Mavro's did find a different Guru. I believe that MM heard that 'he was the best' .. and sought him out. HH has not distanced himself from the Mavro's .. he would not do that, especially as they are his followers having received Diksha from him. ...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

Ella, do you know anything about the Parabhakti Ashram Sydney? According to the website http://www.paramahamsi.org it was started in 2004, and was Shankaracharya Swaroopanand's first ashram overseas. Is it connected with the SFSK in anyway? They seem to be mainly Indians who study the Bhagavad Geet...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

And just a crazy thought I had after posting .. Just say, IF.. HH had thought MM very special and granted him permission to inititate, Would it then be OK (after his passing), for just anyone that NM thought suitable to carry on with this 'special permission' (which had been granted to someone else)...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

Thank you Tootsie, For writing in detail the details of the teaching in regard to diksha/initiation .. from the interview with HH, Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati from 1985. What you have written is still adhered to by HH in India today (as one would expect). HH appears very traditional in following th...
