Re: Michael Mavro Sydney SOP

Much of the substance of this article actually comes from quotes of members/ex-members, so I don't think the journalist is exercising "creative license" in the way that you're suggesting. The fact that some people find these comments so hard to believe simply highlights how absurd the whol...

Re: Coming to terms with stupidity

My impression is that a person's character is not best determined when they are at the mercy of their circumstances, but rather when they are masters of them. Mrs Mavro might be "changing" her behaviour now in a desperate attempt to keep the students she has left, but surely we must determ...

Re: 'Secret' mantras

Still Searching, While I cannot speak for DitP, I think the purpose of his/her post was to provide context regarding the character of the Mavros and the kind of school they ran. While it is highly likely that the current SOP has 'moved on' to more humane pastures, this does not mean we should forget...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

Thank you bluegreen, Yes, I think "awakening" is the right word - a few years ago I was certainly not awakened to the fact that there were other, equally (il)legitimate points of view out there about how the world works, and was hence quite narrow-minded and dogmatic when it came to Advait...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

For those who noticed that Dr. Alan deleted his earlier comments, they are reproduced (almost) in full in my replies in roughly the order in which he wrote them. I say this only so that my posts can be read in context. Dr. Alan, I might add that it's a real pity that you would rather see fit to dele...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

Dr. Alan, 1. Setting aside the somewhat unethical way in which you quoted personal messages, I think you have failed to grasp the main point of my post. I actually don't mind you quoting things I've said in PM's to you because I'm consistent in my views, but you might find that others are not so acc...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

It is not a philosophy for analysis and debate like many such things have become in Europe and the western styled nations - a philosophy to think about. I think even Adi Shankara would beg to differ on this point. He spent most of his life going around debating people on the topic of Advaita. The b...

Re: Coming to terms with stupidity

Im sorry but your past has no bearing on my experience of Mrs M and SFSK in the present day and your words have absolutely no influence or affect on me. I've responded to this point in the other thread, but I just want to reiterate what a callous position this is. What sort of "benefit" h...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

Shankaracharya Of Dwaraka and Jyoshimath has half of India as his shishyas Are you seriously sticking to the number of "500 million"? The Shankaracharya admittedly has many followers, but for the reasons above - they could not possibly number in the 100's of millions. Also - in what sense...

Re: SFSK Devotee

The question is not whether you can relate to it, enlightened; the question is: what would you think about any person who would do these things? Whether or not they're doing those things to you is not really in issue here. Would you really say that "Information regarding child-abusers is of abs...

Re: SFSK Devotee

Yes - I'm not sure that the money claims are justified. Krishna - you need to actually provide some evidence if you're going to make a claim like that. I also don't think you can speak for the intentions of Dr. Hook et al. For my part, I remember Dr. Hook as a fundamentally good person. I admit that...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

I agree - the language on the website is rather exaggerated. I think the "500 million" comment refers to the fact that Swaroopananda holds two seats, and the area covered by those seats is approximately half of India. India has a population of around 1 billion, so the writer of the website...

Re: Coming to terms with stupidity

Enlightened,

1. I don't think your post has anything to do with the subject of this thread.

2. To my knowledge, Danny Opacic has not started any such "school". If you're just being facetious then I apologise for not picking up on the joke...

Re: Rules, regulations, and directions made in SES/SOP/SFSK

Dr. Alan, I would be very interested to hear what your response is to AT's earlier post: On first reading, from my perspective, two of your points come out as the most clear: (A) That a mind affected by doubt, lack of faith, false knowledge or any irrelevant theories, opinions or beliefs is incapabl...
