What I find most odd about the interventions of Sam Hyde and WD is that pupils would take upon themselves to defend the honour of their school on a board like this. I would find it very hard to beleive that that they would have been allowed to do so with the school's approval (especially so as the s...

OK I'll forgive the poor editing skills - I know that you lot don't get that much of an opportunity to use Information technology, but that spellin' - Yow! I wonder what the reaction of the teachers (30 years ago) might have been to your offerings Now, TRUST ME! I am not one to blindly take for gran...

Well depending upon how you define 'arranged marriages' I'd be inclined to beleive that there were more than that. There are various ways of directing the "arrangement" of marriages. It's worth recalling that SES/ SoES / School of Philosophy members are still required to seek permission to get marr...

As far as I know there were about fifteen arranged marraiges (some teachers) in the S.E.S in the 80's. It may be a little more a little less. Those that I know personally don't betray any symptoms that mark them out out from people that use other dating services. It's the role playing that gets me....

Re: Re Advaita

I have persued my own path on the search for wisdom/truth/happiness and have sometimes come accross shared ideas from what was read out, but as to whether that was advaita, translation, Maclaren's impressions on advaita, or well-read tutor trying to explain something I cannot tell. What I can most ...

I too, like Kier, am suspicious about how far the SES influences the higher ranks of the police force anyway - they seem to have members everywhere. Well in nearly 12 years I never met anyone in SES who had anything to do with the Police. Aren't the policemen too busy doing their absurd masonic stu...

Publication: Evening Standard; Date:2006 Jan 20; Section:News; Page Number: 1 Teachers ?hit and kicked pupils? There's a predictable response to the Inquiry Report on the Seventh Form website: http://www.seventhform.org/seventh_form.html (in the 'News' section). Mr Hassan manages not to mention a single negative finding, says he sees the Report as "an invaluable first step in resolving the concerns and comp...

Re: The substance of SES teachings.

The very existence of the SES and SOP presupposes some sort of line of thinking and belief system distinct from any other,( in enough of a degree to distinguish itself from them to go to the effort of setting up a whole new organization), and having something going for it that has allowed it to con...

Hmm, have wasted far too much of the working day reading this, but although there are some critical passages, overall it doesn't read as being too damning. During my time at the SES in London, I rather blindly took in the image painted of the day-schools being happy enlightened places, however, it w...

Re: Bequests

Thanks for the observation on the School of Philosophy's negative attitude to "do gooders". I felt there is a very strong double standard demonstrated by members I have encountered. The lack of commitment to any societal or community good beyond the membership of the SOP is also something that emph...

Re: bequests

Following on this discussion.... I know it was started some time ago but it raised something from the depths of my memory as I read it. Does anyone else (possibly from the 80s/early 90s) recall having a letter sent home with them requesting parents and grandparents to leave the school money in thei...
