FT, You're not alone. At the risk of being unhelpful (and rude), it's not unlike how I feel about the USA. I like many Americans, but I don't like a lot of what America does. ( runs away) . ( wanders back) There's a lot of work done on the "tyranny of teams" by various organisational behaviour speci...

Re: The story of my family
The girls would enter and CURTSEY in front of the teacher before turning and leaving for home. Every girl had to do this in sequence before being allowed home. Interestingly, no parents ever saw this procession and today I do not wonder why. It?s clear that such a set up only serves to humiliate th...

The voice, language and schemas used in Elizabeth's posting seem quite old-school SES, as Alban observed. Authority implied by length of time rather than capability; unquestioning faith in the school leaders; lack of acknowledgement of the validity of different viewpoints; description of the school'...

Re: Debenham
In 1992 he appeared at my parents divorce case as a witness for my stepfather - so on the face of it he believes in the legal process. Ben, Face value indeed. Debenham appears to believe in the legal process insofar as it can be exploited to support outcomes desired by the SES. According to Hounam ...

Yeah - it's compulsory from the earliest years at Erasmus in Melbourne, which has the same curriculum as the St James junior school. My kids are learning Chinese, which has a little more immediate practical application.

Thanks Ben, and welcome (even if you are involved in the Satanic cult otherwise known as accountancy )
Would be great to hear more of your experiences of how the SES treated kids, and what led you to leave the SES.
Cheers,

To take the gender roles further you can imagine the flack I received by the Mavros in Sydney over being not only present but to assist at the birth of my three children. and what on earth did the Mavros think they were doing presuming to give you advice on ANYTHING concerning children, given they ...

ROFL! Nice work Chittani. No disrespect to Anthony - I think I appreciate where he's coming from, although I suspect no one but the Ravesis will ever really understand what they went through, but an apt response to the outburst. (reviews Chittani's post again, rolls on floor again, approves of serio...
