Occult or not?
Thanks emmalu! Nice to know that more than the two of us are reading this thread... Having looked it up it occurred to me that perhaps they are using the term "occult" in different ways...? I'm sure Erikdr wil have an humble opinion about it. Hmmm... I am not defending practices which I label occult...

Types of meditation
Hi snowman, Ok, Erik, are you defending occult practices and classifying them as religions (beneficial or otherwise)? Are you a member/practicioner of occult group/worship? I am simply explaining that in my religious experience (now mainly Buddhism-based) meditation is essential, and that it has str...

Types of meditation
Wow, quite a topic. If more people jump in, please! I don't recall mentioning religion in any context and in any case, since you raised the issues, my opinion is that religion is NOT evil. I believe that the meditation system proscribed by the SES is essentially an occult practice - the cult of Rama...

Meditation - baby and tub?
Hi snowman, Sadly most people will contiue the practice of meditation as it has become habitual serving little purpose other than to perpetuate the hypnotic trance-like state that it has always induced. I do not see the point of repeating the name of a pagan demi-god over and over again - there are ...

Evidence on kalpas
I am wondering if the SES has any views on the 'creation' , existence of dinosaurs, angels, prophecy, apocoliptic scenarios etc etc -- some streams of Hinduism are either silent on such things or contradictory -- do they revert to some christian beliefs here or dip into the Zen, Buddhist or some othe...

If the SES are still requiring people have their marriages approved - what happens if you join when you are ALREADY married That depended (and depends) strongly on the approach of the partner towards your SES activities. To give two extremes: 'Happy to loose you 3 evenings a week and quite a few we...

Erik, am I to understand that Paul Van Oyen -- while head of the Dutch School, before the schism -- arranged marriages between members? 1. Did he charge money for it? 2. Did the couples meet before they were married? 3. Did anyone (that you know of) feel free to turn down the match? 4. Or was it mo...

Diet
Diet - We had a very varied diet (not 4 foods) but it was always raw. I have no problem with that, and in fact the meals I ate on retreats are one of my fond memories of being a member! On Youth Group retreats, we cooked foods (we even ordered in Pizza) and occasionally on adult retreats we also co...

School attitudes
Hi Bella! Thanks for the elaborate posts, which contain quite some reasonable material. After all, I still manage to maintain friendships with SES students long after I have left. But in two slippery areas your comparisons are not really to the point, so here we go. Re homophobia: The SES' view on t...

Maharishi roots
Okay, some more on the Maharishi links and the Shankaracharya troubles. As my background makes logical, through the info on/off Paul van Oyen (ex-chairman Dutch SES). Both are quotes from an appraisal about Paul by a friend, linked to on his own website. And are in line with the (in this area slight...

Diet
Have I missed/blanked out anything? Not for the English version, as far as I know; my sample is of course very small, being two Waterperry A-in-A backstage weeks. But no, there IS one thing missing: usually we also had one type of cheese, had to be British (e.g. Stilton). Now to supplement this wit...

Well, a brief trip to
www.luccaleadership.org
will give you most basics. The SES link will only become clear once you see the staff list, including Boddy family.
Looks like the x-th front for SES, now trying to bring out their doctrines in yet another field...

Teaching methods
ER>My life-long experience is that materialist (as opposed to truly ER> spiritual) people whom I meet You seem of very limited experience erikdr. So there are only two types of people? spiritual or material? Does seem so to be less a matter of different/limited experience than of limited interpreta...
