Teaching methods

Hi jojo, I think you are missing the point with SES day schools. We are not talking about a healthy balanced introduction to more spiritual matters within the framework of a broad education, at St James we had the SES brand of spirituality rammed down our throats on a daily basis to the exclusion of...

Teaching methods

So you are saying you think it is a good thing for schools to try and teach pupils to be "spiritual"? There are enough self-deluded airheads in this world already without schools manufacturing more of them. Sorry to hear that, apparently due to your experiences with SES, you've become kind of anti-...

Teaching methods

Do you think ignoring this research and other mainstream teaching methods is a safe and responsible thing for a school to do, especially one with a past like St Vedast-St James? Hmmm... I can only vote for Platoschool (the Dutch clone, but the first one in SES realm to have succesful legal prosecut...

Get a life!

but your attitude of "let go ....... move on......get a life.................. " is NOT what we need here. Most of us HAVE moved on, let go, or gotten a life. However, the acts of moving on, letting go, and getting a life, for most of us, have involved dealing with the repercussions of our years in...

School duties

truly needed.... such as to their own family members, children etc!..the community? etc. I know members were told not to take/keep family photos or attach great importance to anything which distracted from the SES philosophy. How can anyone obey such rubbish !? - but thousands did. What persuades (...

SES teachings and gays

the legacy it has left is still impossible to shake off after 6 years. repeated attempts to make peace with the experience through contact with school leader and other tutors has left me cold. they're acknowledgement and willingness to accept an appropriate degree of responsibility is quite astonis...

Oyen continued

Just briefly: a) Many thanks, Free Thinker from NYC. (Yes you're right, SPP was slightly more liberal than SES - and at times SvF also was. I only participated for 6 weeks in SPP classes, duties and retreats while being an expat in the eighties living in Upper East Side, but have mostly fond memorie...

School van Ooijen!

Hi Suzanne, Good to see you here, and see some direct touches from people with close SvF experience. First one small thing: I've never used the alias to hide my real identity, only because my last name (De Ruijter) is not very easy to repeat everywhere especially in an English-speaking forum. Now so...

Positive feedback

Hi galeeb, Appreciate your attempt to put things into context, and prevent some parts of the forum to become a one-sided bashing wall. On the suggestions do those with bad experiences of particular individuals not have any redeeming comments for the School(s) as a whole? There was something meaningf...

Oyen assets and liabilities

* Mr. P. van Oyens wife is neither called Dorine/Doreen/Dorien, nore is she called Manon. * Paul and his wife do not have 2 daughters. The so called "facts" mentioned by others and quoted by me above are not true. This makes me wonder about the reliability of the other "facts" mentioned about the V...

Waterperry fun

Okay, and another story. Not really a joke but definitely fun for people with an AIA (Art in Action :-) complex. And a good parallel with how Janneke threw of her SES trauma with a former tutor at AIA - lovely story Janneke, carry on with those! After my SES years I got acquinted a bit with Andy Web...

Oyen genealogy

The van Oyens live in the Oxerhof mansion don't they More or less. His website mentions (indirectly, through the designers) both Oxerhof and Obrechtstraat Amsterdam, the original family stronghold. Wellknown to many SES people because the maintenance duties there, compensated by the fact that the h...

I don't know if this has been discussed elsewhere but I'd be interested in other people's views and experiences on SES and the day schools' approach to homosexuality Well I can not offer VERY much as I a) Had not much contact with the day school over here (Plato school), although most of our Youth ...

Dutch School

After all I think Goudsbloem was a good guy; his intentions were not evil at all, I guess. What I hated about the youth group was the interference by Mr. Paul van Oyen. Do you remember this televison item about the youth group residentials at De Breul mansion on one of the national Dutch networks. ...
