reference.ses-forums.org: a reference site

For newspaper scans, video clips and other documents relevant to the School of Economic Science and its satellite schools around the world including St James, visit http://reference.ses-forums.org. Why a separate reference site? The reference site is for material that can't easily be stored or organ...

Re: 'Shame on You' by Clara Salaman

An interesting review: http://www.thebookbag.co.uk/reviews/index.php/Shame_on_You_by_Clara_Salaman That review is excellent - and the comments by 'Rachel' that follow it are absolutely spot on. I suspect 'Rachel' is a member of this board, so if you are out there, I encourage you to post these comm...

Re: 'Shame on You' by Clara Salaman

I finished reading Shame on You last week and it turned out to be so much more (and so much better) than I had expected. Before I opened the book I had expected an autobiographical miseryfest of stories about Clara's childhood experiences at St James: the teachers who had tormented her, the places a...

Re: 'Shame on You' by Clara Salaman

I agree with Matthew. I haven't seen anything published suggesting that the SES is actually taking legal action - see my earlier post (viewtopic.php?f=7&t=688&p=9349#p9349).

Re: 'Shame on You' by Clara Salaman

I think it will be interesting and fun to match the fictional characters, places, organisations etc against their real life alter egos, together with any other relevant observations. Anyone who has the book please dive in! I don't have the book yet, but from the publisher's book notes (http://www.pe...

Re: 'Shame on You' by Clara Salaman

Rasmussen was definitely a SES member, and fervent believer, from the start of his time as a St James teacher.

Re: 'Shame on You' by Clara Salaman

Will Rasmussen is definitely American. Though your German alternative is understandable as he did have a passing resemblance to Herr Flick of the Gestapo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herr_Otto_Flick).

Re: 'Shame on You' by Clara Salaman

there are legal reporting restrictions in place I think it should be pointed out that neither of the newspaper articles stated or implied that the SES has taken any formal legal action to prevent the SES being mentioned in connection with the book. I suspect it's more a case of the publishers and/o...

Re: Family values

These passages in the Mail on Sunday article also really rang true with me: And her childhood fostered independence. ‘I grew up fast, as I understood at a young age that there was no reason to respect adults unless they really showed they were worth it.’ ‘I always knew I felt betrayed by my parents ...

Re: Family values

Wow. In nearly five years of involvement in this site I don't think I've ever read an account that so accurately and succinctly captures not only how I felt throughout my twelve years at St James, but also how I feel about it now. This passage really resonated with me - in particular the parts I've ...
