I've also been told by Australians who have attended the courses that they have been told (but in much flowery and roundabout language than this) that some people are "not good enough/wise enough whatever" people to be able to continue the course of study. Guest, what can I say? That's unfortunate....

As for it leaving an "imprint" on my "antakarana", "soul" or "heart", this seems to me a rather good example of SES gobbledygook. Could you (or anyone) please explain what you mean by those terms? Tom, the antakarana can best be described as the psyche, rather than the soul or heart. It's most ofte...

I can certainly see how the SES could be seen to satisfy 1 through 3 on that list of points, but I have no experience whatsoever of 4 or 5. Perhaps things are currently different in other countries, but our head of school has said that an appropriate attitude to cultivate in relation to people enrol...

Do you think it is good that such a 'cult' does meditation?? That seemed a fairly loaded question, so I was reluctant to speak more on the topic. It reads as either a challenge to those calling the SES a cult, or a challenge to those who practice meditation within the SES-prescribed system. Neither...

Why would his significance matter.... if people are not admitting that to say he is a fictional character is wrong. I would venture to say that discussing the significance of Krishna, regardless of whether you believe he existed, is perfectly valid. Many people take comfort and find wisdom in the p...

Guest - with regard to your question about a "special course" for women, my experience is not quite as you have heard. There is a "Ladies at Home" group which meets weekly, and has about a dozen members - the members have been attending the school for various periods of time, and the group is volunt...

Guest, thanks for your response. How is the sports curriculum segregated? I haven't looked into that at all. My primary concern is that critical thinking may be disencouraged at a S.O.P. day school, but I am attracted to the idea of him being schooled in an environment that puts personal fulfilment ...

Some of you would probably be interested to know that the Introductory Philosophy courses have been somewhat revised, at least in Australia - the first lecture sees mention of the possibility of taking meditation at a later time, as well as reference to origins in Eastern religion. You'll also notic...

I don't wish to make light of Anita's previous post by being chatty, but there isn't really anywhere else to post an introduction. I've been a member of the School of Philosophy in Australia for just over six years, and am interested in keeping myself informed regarding people's negative experiences...
