So I think NYC's example isn't a good one to follow. ummmm -- quoting someone when it's relevant, with a link to the orginal thread, is not chuknow, this singularly unusual thing to do. I didn't make it up. Let's not forget, these are largely anonymous comments posted on the internet with no means ...

This is the headline..."Abuse at 'cult' school" and the logline is: "Channel 4 News investigates abuse suffered by pupils at two private schools it is claimed is run by a cult." What is with the frigging passive voice? WHO claims the school is run by a cult? Channel 4? the former students? I'm havin...

Ms. Edmunds, If you are amazed at the furious responses your posts have engendered, perhaps it is because you haven?t read much of the site. I would say on your behalf it is now extremely time-consuming and requires a little computer experience to find the first-person allegations of abuse which hav...

If I got to a point where what was negative for me, outweighed what was positive, I knew I could leave the SES but they [her children] did not have the same degree of self determinism over their situation. This just struck me as so important -- obvious, but easy to forget. To Keir, re bumping, no r...

you defer to his, say, choice of school or view on punishment ( I picked those examples mainly because they're the ones I struggle with the most). It's basically suggesting that "the man is the head of the family" - people are either going to accept that or reject it as antiquated, but I don't thin...

Are you serious or taking the piss? I thought you'd been going for awhile. I guess maybe it's just not long enough. Guess not. I really think I?d remember it if the tutors or material had made any type of statement that ?we support traditional gender roles? or said anything similar to promote a div...

Let me state for the record that I have no intention of claiming compensation. If the schools did have a sudden change of heart (yeah right) and decide to try to make ammends financially for the suffering they caused then I think any money should go to a real charity such as Children in Need. Alban...

well the st james website does have a tab for "Education - Spiritual," so presumably parents who send their kids there want spiritual matters to be a part of their kids' school day... what's wacko to me is that there is no mention of the SES and the strong ties the teachers and school administrators...

Ms. Dillingham was not just the head of the women's groups, she was the head of the whole shebang. So whenever there were any senior group events, or residentials where the head was present, she presided over all the meetings.?it was a unique situation since it wasn't like the husband (head) and wi...

Surely authority has to be invested in a teacher by the student, and then reaffirmed every moment by the wisdom of the teachers ability to convince and answer well. I just wanted to add that the teacher should also be capable of saying ?I don?t know? from time to time. I have never once heard a ?tu...

Do you seriously think they would implement a long skirts rule to get women to leave the school? To get a certain TYPE of woman to drop out, yes. It effectively prevents the more assertively egalitarian-minded women from sticking around long enough to have any influence on the teaching. It?s not ju...
