Re: SES Advertising

Thanks for this Bonsai. Just googled "practical philosophy" and the first site to come up on the search is http://www.practicalphilosophy.org.uk, the website for the journal of the Society for Philosophy in Practice, which has no links to the SES as far as I can see. The SES site, http://w...

Re: Fun little video on cults..

Hi grimep, thanks for posting this, it was posted on the old forum a long time ago, it's good to have it back on here. I think it's hilariously funny and also scarily accurate. If anyone here is not sure whether the SES is a cult or not, then watch this and count how many things are familiar! Brilli...

Re: Do you still have nightmares?

I know what you mean, bluegreen. My partner and I often joke about how I never seem to have a happy dream. Even ones about pleasant situations tend to have a note of menace in them somewhere. Mind you, maybe I just don't remember the happy ones!

Do you still have nightmares?

I just wondered, as I had one last night. Mine are very infrequent now, but last night I was running around the Queensgate buildings, sometimes in my school uniform (as a child) and sometimes as a naked adult, desperately trying not to be seen by the many adults and children I could hear around the ...

Re: Another story

Hi bluegreen, welcome to the board. Thank you so much for your post, it really resonated with me, as I clearly remember wetting myself in class, and being made to clear up the pee of others with a special J-cloth that the teacher kept in the cupboard. I'd forgotten about the Y-fronts though, that br...

Re: 'Shame on You' by Clara Salaman

It is unclear of course which parts of the story are true and which are fiction, so unless Clara would like to say, we can only guess. Such as when her father takes his belt to her (p130): Her father ‘ “you, young lady, upstairs!” Mum turned away silently and started to do the drying-up. ...’ This ...

Re: Apology

But everything so far has been couched with two bits of information that invalidated any sense of apology. These are: Things have changed and secondly the intention was to provide the best education. I don't care about the intention. In that regard they failed and have to be judged by the results a...

Re: 'Shame on You' by Clara Salaman

From the radio interview there was the Greek teacher who was not part of the organisation. Am I correct in thinking that this is based on Miss West? I was there at roughly the same time as Clara (she was about 4 years ahead of me) and I think that the Greek teacher is much more likely to have been ...

Re: 'Shame on You' by Clara Salaman

Yes she was handed a leaflet outside the conference that highlighted the fact that the then chair of St James Governors had refused to resign following the abuse findings in his school, and that Nicholas Debenham, the Head teacher throughout that period was, and still is, the Chair of Trustees of t...

Re: 'Shame on You' by Clara Salaman

Wow, trubleshtr, that's a massive decision. Good luck, and don't forget we are all here on this board to support you. Did anyone hear Clara interviewed on Midweek on Radio 4 this morning? It's such a shame that she can't name the SES or the schools or any of the people involved, as it really stopped...

Re: Family values

Yes, Bonsai, I noticed that too, very evocative. I think the book will probably be very hard to read, particularly for ex-pupils of the girl's school. I think the Mail article is actually better (although I am not a Mail fan normally) as it's a little more in depth. I particularly like the quote abo...

Re: Family values

I second Daffy on this one, amazing. I have already pre-ordered the book from Amazon, and posted a link to the article on my Facebook page. My parents left the SES a very long time ago now, but the influence of its screwed up beliefs is still there in the family (not least because we are still in co...
