Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

Just realised my reply to iwonder on the other thread should've been put here: iwonder, your experiences echo our own. iwonder wrote: Tactics used by the tutor were creating self doubt in the mind of the questioner (who is asking that, you are thinking too much etc) The disturbing thing about this i...

Re: Just for fun...really?

Does anyone know if it might be possible to reopen the poll on the this thread so we can vote again and see what happens? iwonder, your experiences echo our own. Tactics used by the tutor were creating self doubt in the mind of the questioner (who is asking that, you are thinking too much etc) The d...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

Also, whether these men are so called “realised beings” is very fanciful to say the least. There is something in the human ego that makes us want to feel “special” and “chosen”. That “higher hidden knowledge” is reserved for a special few human beings and not available at large, this is all occult ...

Re: Practical Philosophy

1. Cults Whether or not to consider the SOP/SFSK as a 'cult' is an interesting one. Actually There has argued persuasively against using the word 'cult' in other threads, and I agree with his argument to the extent that it shows the impracticability of using the word in a context such as this forum....

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

It's somewhat ironic that when we were told about the meditation offered in the School it was "special", "couldn't be obtained anywhere else" and furthermore that the meditation being offered by other organisations was "not authentic" and so on. As it turns out, this is...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

I have recently learned that students in SFSK who ask why So-and-so has left the School are being told that So-and-so left because they were "too busy" with their non-spiritual lives. Lies are being told, instead of: "why don't you ask them yourself? Then if you like, come back and w...

Re: Sydney SOP 70's. A Different Perspective.

Yes - and the next thing you know they're talking about whether your ego is "under tamas" or "under rajas" and no one actually knows what any of that actually refers to. It's like talking about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. A similar injunction used in the Schoo...

Re: Sydney SOP 70's. A Different Perspective.

I'm actually waiting for GettingThere to post again so that we can further discuss what he thinks the "message" of the School is; but in anticipation: This: At root of the matter is not semantic nitpicking. It is the question why the very same people would be cautious with the language of ...

Re: Sydney SOP 70's. A Different Perspective.

2 questions then: 1. When we talk about the 'message' of the School - isn't it inevitable that we get into questions of language, because language is how we define that message? (The philosophical imperative) 2. Also, the task is not just philosophical; as I mentioned above, my whole worldview was d...

Re: Sydney SOP 70's. A Different Perspective.

Language is key to indoctrination. Personally I see differences between the claims that "The truth is I am not a duck" and "The truth is we are invading Iraq because it hates freedom". Would you really treat both claims in the same way? Is it unreasonable nitpicking to ask quest...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

And MOTS on the 'initiation ceremony' .. It is of course too, only a ritual ceremony for the worship of Deities .. it has nothing whatsover to do with Diksha. Yes. One thing that occurred to me was the following: I remember Mr and Mrs M always telling me that the last thought in your mind when you ...

Re: Sydney SOP 70's. A Different Perspective.

I do feel though that we must not hesitate to use whatever words we find to most accurately express our points, Yes - "accurately" is the key word there. I hardly think that a fragment like "the truth is that you were faced with the Truth" accurately expresses anything at all. I...

Re: Sydney SOP 70's. A Different Perspective.

Thanks MW for another interesting post. Message: Or put even more simply, the Dalai Lama has been quoted as saying “my religion is very simple, my religion is kindness”. This quote and the story preceding it are little more than injunctions to live a moral life. If this is all you took from the Scho...
