Re: How Cults Rewire the Brain
ONLY ONE THING IN CREATION IS IMMUTABLE ALL ELSE IS MUTABLE (including the original text of this post) Dr.Alan, it appears from a search of your posts that you have a history of deleting them or replacing them with text like the above. It is obviously not appropriate to do this. I can't stop a sele...

Re: GD response.
I'm disappointed to say that Gerasene Demon is now banned, this time for giving another user's real name as well as publicly quoting from that other user's private messages. This is an absolute no-no on any forum, particularly one like ses-forums.org. I have hidden the thread concerned, which did no...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge - 2
I said I was resting the thread for the weekend - not indefinitely. You will recall just a month ago this thread: http://www.ses-forums.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=853 where several members agreed I wasn't getting involved early enough with the result that the flame wars were deterring other people ...

Re: An End to the Usurpation by Daffy
Thanks Bonsai and ET. Regarding threads going off topic, my personal view (as a user rather than moderator, if it's possible to separate the two) is that I don't mind it very much. In real life conversations morph over time from topic A to topic B to topic C and so on, and it's much the same on a fo...

Re: An End to the Usurpation by Daffy
Thanks Middle Way for your comments. Striking a balance between allowing vigorous discussion and moderating abuse is difficult. The subject of this board attracts strongly held and strongly expressed views, and I have no problem with that in itself. As with other decisions I've explained recently, I...

Re: An End to the Usurpation by Daffy
The moderator tools include being able to move threads between forums. That would involve a bit of work, but it could be done over time.

Re: An End to the Usurpation by Daffy
Thanks Tootsie and bluegreen. bluegreen, you make some excellent points and I am interested in what other people think too. Yes, you are right, I am very busy - I have young children and don't always have the time to check everything that is posted here. I do try to keep an eye on the forum and resp...

Re: An End to the Usurpation by Daffy
In the interests of transparency I have had to delete another rant by OneBadRat and ban him from the forum. He has contributed little since he joined but spiteful abuse of other users including me, both in public threads like this and by private message. The background to my taking on responsibility...

Re: GD response.
What do you see when you try to PM? There is a possibility that he has a full private mailbox - a maximum 50 messages are allowed. I have changed the setting so that instead of rejecting new messages it deletes the oldest. Try again and see if it works. This change affects all users. If you have old...

Re: 'Secret' mantras
As a general point: saying "I didn't experience any of this" is not an argument for the benign nature of the School as a whole. Painting a picture of the place requires consideration of everyone's point of view, and that is why yours is also valuable. I agree that it is unfair to label ev...

Re: GD response.
Daffy - can you explain what locking -out a thread is? Locking a thread simply means stopping any further posts from being made in it. It's a commonly used feature on forums where a thread has 'served its purpose', such as where the original poster's question has been answered and the conversation ...

Re: GD response.
I've done some searching for the timeout problem and I think I've found a board setting that controls what's called the 'session length'. The setting was previously the default of 3600 seconds (= 1 hour) but I've now made this 10 hours. See if that works and let me know what happens. In the meantime...

Re: Gerasene's Cave.
GD, I have now reactivated your account. Welcome back. They say a change is as good as a rest so I hope the week off has been refreshing. Bear in mind the board is not really the place to 'mind dump' - there are no doubt better places and people to help you do that.
