Hi - thanks for that - what i meant about asking is it Hindu is that while apparently some of the structures of its main beliefs seem to accord with hindu philosophy alright but it seems there's a heap of other stuff thrown in (TM, remnants of Blavatsky etc) add in a large portion of McLaren's pers...

Hi Dan, I went back and reread all of your posts here on the board since I don't remember replying to any of them. I've taken a few quotes from you here and then I've responded. First I'll respond to your last post, and then some others. "Do you recollect any of these visits? What was it really...

Leontius - Thanks for clarifying - I have to admit that I didn't reread this thread so I may be talking out o' my ass! Anyhoo, I will come back later and reply to you about the "world tours" from the US perspective - I'm a few years older than you but in the same generation, both of age, a...

I think the majority of posts here have gotten very specific, so I'm unsure of what you are alluding to there. Are you only interested in those who actually attended St. James during those years? I didn't, I couldn't, since I grew up in the US and the "Philosophy Day School" didn't exist t...

I'm no Sam Hyde fan (sorry!) but I share his sentiment about this issue. Every single other poster here has introduced him/herself with a brief description of their background with the SES, whether lengthy or brief. A simple "I have a friend who is a member" or "I was once in one of t...

CM - I'm so sorry that your son had to go through that. Were any disciplinary actions taken against the teacher who slapped him? Because that's illegal, as you know. If the school did not do something, I would sue. Just my opinion. The SES schools have gotten away with physical abuse far long enough...

I've become familiar with "the secret" only in the last few weeks, and I have found what you stated to be the case, mostly young women who are dissatisfied with various areas of their lives. Unfortunately, when I read the postings of people who are "into" The Secret, all I can th...

Thanks, ADG!

I'm celebrating what a friend calls Festivus - neither here nor there in terms of religion but a time of friends and family, cleaning of the house, good cooking, and movies on the couch with a blanket!

Although the cults.co.nz site seems rather thorough, anyone reading it should know that the entries are written from a Christian perspective, and therefore condemn almost anything that isn't typically Christian. Each entry has a blinky next to it with things like "OK", "warning" ...

Thanks so much for sharing this information with us!

I'm so glad to hear that people there are still working to get the truth out, and something done about it. I'm eager to hear what happened as a result.

How is everyone doing?

Since it's been pretty quiet, I thought I'd just have a check-in thread. I'm doing well. My relationship with my mother has vastly improved. We talk about many more issues than we did before, and I don't feel censored when I speak to her, which was a big deal before. While some old issues come up fr...

Well, I was still in the SoPP in 1996 and I hadn't heard anything about the problems at St. James or the report. I was a young adult at the time but my mother hadn't either, and she was a senior member. So I dare say they managed to keep it pretty much under wraps.
