St james Girls School - remembered

Written by Clara Well done for starting this website. I went to st james from 1975 until I was 'asked to leave' in 1982. Unfortunately, being in the guinea pig class of the whole hideous idea of a school my form teacher was also the headmistress which meant there was never any respite. I feel I wou...

girls school

I think the career advice we recieved (go to a uni in London so that you can continue living with your father and then get married!) was terrible. I did find that I left St James with very low self esteem and very few happy memories and had some trouble initially adjusting to the outside Hi Guest, ...

I think there must be a case of mistaken identity here, or some serious brainwashing

what do you think?

Guest, I am interested to read your views on St James, you being a pupil there from 4-18 is quite incredible, I hope you survived unscathed. I don't think it is healthy to have one form teacher for 7 years. It is an example of the incredible arrogance of those that run the school to suppose that the...

This is a noble concept and one becoming increasingly prevalent today in the Western world as disillusionment grows with previously stable standards of behaviour and belief. The offer of choice to children seems to create enormous uncertainty as they search for something they can rely upon. TB, I d...

TB

Please support your comment Quote: parents should do everything they can to protect their children from fundamentalist belief systems, whatever the parent may believe themselves. How do you define 'fundamentalist belief systems'? Are you restricting this to religion/cult or would the same apply to ...

TB & Adrasteia

Philosophy is just one of the truth/reality seeking systems around, along with religion, justice and science, who seek to understand things the way they really are. Nothing too esoteric here. TB, you are deeply misguided if you think that 'religion' is a truth seeking system. What an incredible bla...

To David Hipshon & Barry Barber

Thank you both for taking the trouble to respond with apologies for your previous behaviour as teachers. Your words are very welcome and do make a difference to me even now - in a life that you very literally touched. I was at St Vedast 1975-80 and received many blows from both of you during those y...

old guff

I did hear a lovely story recently to illustrate this - parents of a four-year-old girl overheard her going up to her baby brother and whispering to him "Baby, please tell me about God - I'm beginning to forget". Christoph, you really do write a lot of old guff. You are regurgitating the SES idiocy...

to Paul

This well written statement really brings back the horror of my St vedast days. It is a really strong argument against schools being allowed to use physical punishment on children (finally acted on by government in the 1990s) . Who in their right mind would want to be violent towards children - who ...

response to Jerome Webb

I am a former ex St Vedast pupil and I have followed this thread with interest. Firstly to Jerome I would say thank you for your post, concern and effort you have gone to in making contact possible. However I hope you can accept that other ex pupils do not necessarily share your methods of righting ...

virus

Apologies to Chris De Vere Chris I assure you I was an ex St Vedast pupil and I am not such " a very sad twisted sod" that I would send anyone a virus intentionally (even an abusive ex St Vedast teacher!). My virus checker (up to date Nortons) did not flag anything up and the only thing I forwarded ...

Responding to Tom, Alban & Matt:- I found it really interesting reading your pieces about your lives since St V. I remember you all, especially Tom - we used to hang out a bit in West Hampstead! Like all of you, I would say that I also have had problems with authority and still do - it's white m...

In response to Matthew, I also attended St Vedast (now St James school) for 5 years and suffered physical and mental abuse from most of the teaching staff who were brainwashed SES (School of Economic Science) cult members. Unfortunately as my parents were also members, there was no escape from the m...
