Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

@Ella

This is totally compelling.

But who has the recording, and are they sharing it? One needs evidence to avoid this being dismissed as hearsay.

Re: 'Secret' mantras

@MOTS We could probably agree that the answer is there are degrees of responsibility, shades of grey, different cases. Am sure neither of us would want to apply any blanket judgements. People who become tools of a malicious workman can be either victims or accomplices, or both. Some are more accompl...

Re: 'Secret' mantras

@MOTS In fact we're pretty much in agreement. To clarify, my point was certainly not that brainwashed people are responsible for being brainwashed, or that the leadership can be absolved from planning and running an abusive spiritual group. Certainly, I would agree that the main problem - or culprit...

Re: 'Secret' mantras

I think you said earlier AT that you had never been a member of the SES etc. but have some close links to people who have been and maybe still are in there. And that you care about them. Yes that is true, but the 'have beens' are many more than the 'maybe stills'. The general view of the exit - cou...

Re: 'Secret' mantras

I think there is real courage in being able to use your reason and follow the evidence where it leads you, rather than being told what to believe first and then trying to find 'authorities' and opinions that support your pre-gone conclusions. This equally goes for using an absence of reason and fol...

SES rules on posture

Remember SES rules on sitting up straight?

Apparently it is bad for your back:

Re: 'Secret' mantras

@MOTS Nice post. Personally, for what its worth, I'm agnostic and a firm believer in 'not knowing' or 'the unknown', also referred to as 'mystery'. We don't know answers to certain questions, and that is beautiful. There is a lot of amazing stuff going on in our heads and the world around us that we...

Re: 'Secret' mantras

@MOTS You wrote: This is enough to draw out a feeling of egotistical validation from the student Yes. And am sure you'd agree that a pre-requisite of this happening is convincing the 'student' first that they are on a path of transcending the limitations of the ego. That is a crucial stage, the guid...

Re: Sydney SOP 70's. A Different Perspective.

@MOTS

It seems all too convenient for them to tell you that everything they said was the truth, and then for them to tell you that your negativity was caused by your sanskaras; which was true because everything they said was the truth.

Re: Donald Lambie

@MW Yes, apparently therapists are meant to keep a little distance and help people help themselves . Can believe there aren't enough therapists around who resist the temptation to give advice and take on a leadership role that builds dependency. This is surely a particularly delicate issue when ther...

@ landgirl That lost work might be a blessing in disguise. I totally agree that it is the most infuriating thing in the world to lose a large piece of work because of technology. But you've also said that you wrote it in the middle of everything - and that in my opinion is a thought that will take y...

@MW

Yes, that makes perfect sense. Thank you.

You have my sympathy, respect and admiration for coming to such a clear understanding of what happened and expressing it so well.

Kind regards,

AT
