School of Meditation

Postby Tom Grubb » Thu Feb 16, 2006 12:13 pm

I've been asked by a work colleague to look into the connections between the SES and the School of Meditation in London. She's trying to track down a missing person, a friend of her family, who was in the SES and then the SOM.

Does anyone know what kind of a link there is between the two organisations?

As far as I understand, though I accept I am no authority, the SES uses the school of meditation for initiating SES students. There may be a more historic link and convergence in origin but I don't know what it is.

I do know of a number of people who have left the SES and joined SOM to continue to have support for meditation.

Yes, Tom is right. The SOM is not only a fallback mechanism for individuals but also for groups.

At the first schism inside Dutch SES, in the early nineties, the 'Stichting Filosofie en Meditatie' (SFM) was formed. Including at least 10 ex-tutors, some quite senior, of SES. They continued the link with London through SOM and Mr. White (the main person giving SES initiations in Amsterdam for many years), and 2-3 times a year he came to Amsterdam both for SES and SOM initiations. So apparently SOM partly uses people 'on the payroll' of SES.
Later SFM slowly grew more independent, and also forged links with other new-age teachers - amongst them another Indian. But TM meditation is still one of the techniques they teach, and apparently now they have found another initiation lineage (maybe their own Indian, maybe an authorised Dutch person) than SOM to continue the initiations.
With folded palms,

Hang on, Anton. Are you trying to make us believe that Leon MacLaren was married? Because I don't believe it, and if it is true, then that was some screwed up situation. I mean, the man hated women!

Anton - I wasn't saying it in a "you are lying" way, but in a "Oh My God!" way.

I'm sure you would not say something like that offhand that wasn't true or was just a rumor.

That said, I shudder to think of it.

Many thanks for the information so far on connections between the SES and School of Meditation. It's been very useful.

Tom
