Logical Fallacies used in the School

Postby ManOnTheStreet » Wed Aug 22, 2012 11:10 am

This is a neat little website I came across: http://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/

It lists some common logical fallacies people tend to use when arguing. Going through the list I was struck by just how many of them are used by School tutors/leaders to justify their points of view.

Clicking each tab on the site will bring up a more detailed explanation and an accompanying example so you can see how these things work in practice.

"False cause", "Personal Incredulity", and "Ambiguity" particularly stood out for me.

'Begging the question' was pretty apt too.

The only one that isn't used is the "middle ground" argument. My experience of the SES is that they are uncompromising in their views of things even in the face of very strong evidence.

Yes that's right Bonsai, they take a view and don't present any evidence to support it.

Saying "this comes from the Veda" is not evidence by the way; you have to say which exactly which part of the Veda "it" comes from so anyone who wants can go and check for themselves.
