Holy cow batman!

Postby mgormez » Fri Aug 19, 2005 12:53 am

Hi guys, as you can see the forum is back but all the trouble was for nothing as email still doesn't work for some reason. I have to get back and pester my ISP about this. Obviously I have to suppress a few strong curse words here.

Besides that I've to upload the smilies, pencil-rank thingy & avatars again. That shouldn't prove a big problem. I am going to enjoy a cold one now and look around what more there's to do.

Ps. The SubSilver template has a much better search page than the nicer looking Appelacia template. You can change your templates in the 'profile' button at the top of every page.

Yess!!!

Someone else told me the same. I received nolthing of the previous e-mail tests I performed before I did the mass e-mail to everyone. So perhaps the forum is working again but mail from this domain is blocked by my dutch ISP for whatever reason. It can happen if the sites on this server with which we share space have been spamming.

The real test is if e-mail is also sent when someone gets a PM or is requests a login ID an dthe confirmation is sent.

FT, I'll sent you a PM in a sec, do you get an email notification of that?

Later. That works as well. Looking good!

Nooooo....! Leave them out - I hate smilies, especially the animated ones ;)

Mmm.. the search page of the Appelachia template is obviously broken. I'm failry certain this is because over time the BB has had added features that the never updated Appelachia template doesn't have. But we can still use that nicer looking one - personal opinion - and let it use the uptodate SubSilver search page.

Just a thought.

Later.. I went ahead and replaced the faulty search page of the Appelachia template with the one from the SubSilver template. Works good.

I have been fairly depressed I must admit. The timing was not the best of choices on my part to try to fix the board at this crucial time but people were rightfully asking me when finally they could register and share or ask questions. No one besides the user and the BB know the passwords and so I could not manualy add users.

But what to do with the older posts who used smilies? Perhaps we can point out the most obnoxious animated ones and replace them with static smilies.

Anyways, I feels good to be back. I will call off my complaining tech ticket and hope they haven't acted on it yet as the stuff seems to work.

Another thing, we went 'live' a few hours too early unintentionally. I was busy with another test BB to get it to work and hadn't realized I knocked out the temporary publick BB. So if someone asked me a question or made a comment, I haven't seen it.

Once I saw the public temporary BB was gone I just went on and restored it on this location again a bit ahead of time.

Does this BB get indexed by search engines?

Postby mgormez » Sat Aug 20, 2005 12:08 am

Yes. Right now the board is being indexed by 207.46.98.117 which resolves to msnbot.msn.com
