Abuse of forum and other forum users

As everyone has noticed, there has been a surge of activity on this board recently. Some of this is welcome, but much of it is just garbage or abuse that will deter legitimate users from contributing if it is allowed to continue.

Please try not to start new threads where you can simply add to existing ones. Vigorous debate is tolerated and even encouraged, but please do not allow yourself to be sucked into gratuitous slanging matches.

There is (currently) no maximum number of posts or threads you can create in a given time period, but if you exceed what is reasonable and litter the board with garbage, we may take action.

Zathura's account has been suspended, pending his satisfying us that he is not our old 'friend' Matt Stollar. For newer users who are not aware, Matt Stollar is a former pupil of St James who registered under various different guises in 2004 and virtually took over this board (as well as Mike Warham's Yahoo board) with numerous lunatic threads until he was banned.

In summary, please remember that this board is here for all to enjoy. It is not your personal soap box. Act with consideration towards other users.

The account of Elster has been de-activated until questions are answered about the used IP address which matches that of another new poster.

Double, tripple or more accounts per user are not allowed on BBs.

Elster has been activated again. I assume two posters here live close to each other and are on the same network. On such networks IP addresses can be asigned randomly to users and that such is the case here. I have no proof to the contrary and perhaps was too quick on the trigger.

A person previously banned on this forum has registered several new accounts. One of them purports to be another user who has already registered under his real name. This is obviously unacceptable.

Regular users of this site know who we mean - he has caused trouble here before. I will avoid mentioning his name if possible, as he actually relishes the publicity and has invited us to publish threats he has recently made.

We will delete any fake user accounts and any posts made under them immediately.

Apologies to those who are inconvenienced, but Mike and I don't always have the time to PM other users who may be wondering what has happened when a post or thread has disappeared.

Sam has seen fit to republish one of these threads, which he knew had been deleted. The repost has itself been deleted. Sam, you've earned yourself another 48 hour suspension as a result. You are not entitled to override decisions Mike or moderators make to delete unacceptable posts.
