Down With Skool

Postby chittani » Thu Mar 30, 2006 12:23 pm

Just to introduce a lighter (not to say irrelevant) note,

Although I had not the unique experience of the English minor public school, I got some insight into its 'benefits' from the books of Nigel Molesworth, who chronicled his times at St Custard's with a mixture of low cunning and ineffably bad spelling.

Has anyone else read Molesworth? It was a bit before my time but my Dad put me on to him.

If you want to know more you'll have to buy a copy, but there's a brilliant pastiche which has Molesworth attending "hoggwarts skool for WITCHCRAFT and wizzardry ".

Warning: reading Molesworth can seriously impair your ability to spell.

Hi chittani,

Biggest fan of Molesworth here!

Particularly loved "skool dinners- or the peece of cod which passeth understanding"

Nice to see a more lighthearted post on here.

PS the hogwarts thing - does that mean JK Rowling pinched it? Hee hee

The creativity of their spelling puts the boys of St James to shame!

Well you just link the URL between

[!img]http://image_url/xxx.jpg [!/img] Remove the !

You have an IMG* button in the edit box. Technically if you don't own the original pictures web site you shouldn't really link it in otherwise the owning website gets lots of hits everytime someone views the message i.e on here on this BB but on occassion its OK.

If you right click on the image I put in my last post you'll see the URL

You may think I'm soft, but I'm hard. Damned hard.

Control, I think we have a positive ID on William Wray.

Celia

I hadn't thought of that, to be honest. No, I must say I had a better experience of him than you. I always recall him being more tolerant and open-minded than many people.

Free,

Those pictures are on the web site as well ...
