Perth SOP

Postby Dissenter » Wed Mar 01, 2006 8:18 am

Does anyone know the leaders of the Perth School?

Can anyone tell me anything else about the Perth SOP as I would like to know how prolific it is, and how long it has been running for.

Thank you Bella.

Well I have just had a quick squiz...

umm why the American spelling????

Practical Parenting - surely the "three fundamental needs of children" are eat/shit/sleep? Why do I need a course in 'meeting' these needs?

I also notice "true discipline" gets a mention. Elaborate please. Have you done one of these "practical parenting" courses"?

But back to the basics, if the esstional teachign is Hindu why say this? " It has been said that all of Western philosophy is a footnote to Plato. "

Opening lines of WA school website:

When people think of philosophy, they usually think of something academic and purely intellectual.

Sheesh. Anti-intellectualism is alive and well in Australia.

Has been for the last 10 years.

Anyone know if JH is a member of the SES?

Dr Gerhard Grohmann is at least responsible for the CD production:

Dr Grohmann is Canberra, not Perth, I believe. His classical CDs are distributed at quite a few schools, though. Yeah, Brisbane started up around 1994.

Parenting course - I also shudder to think.

I hope they have dropped the "stop breastfeeding your child by 4 months because it is bad for them after that" line.

What is it with cults and breastfeeding? Look here, from another group:

Breast feeding babies may have a nostalgic background, particularly to a Freudian oriented medico, but real breast milk again is usually a poor ration. Modern mothers smoke and sometimes drink. Smoking makes the milk very musty. Anyway, a nervous modern mother just can't deliver the right ration. Maybe it's the pace of the times or the breed, but there are few modern Guernsey-type mothers. So even without drinking or smoking, one should forget breast feeding.

It is utter bollocks. It was reported in The Lanclet (1998;351:1160-1164) that addition to infection-fighting antibodies, human breast milk also contains a compound that helps babies fight rotavirus infection, the leading cause of serious infant diarrhea.

There are a million and one reasons why babies should be breastfed as long as possible. I don't need to go into them here unless asked.

I think it's because it promotes such a bond between baby and mother, and cults don't want that. Plus it makes the mothers not able to leave the babies until they are no longer breastfeeding, thus making them unable to attend "residentials" or classes. Unless they are able to or willing to pump. And not all of them are.
