ST Vedast Inquiry Update

Postby CBetts » Wed Dec 15, 2004 3:08 pm

My name is Christine Betts, a senior lawyer at VW with responsibility for administering the Inquiry which the Governors of the Independent Educational Association Ltd wish to establish following complaints that have been published on the internet relating to the disciplinary regime at St Vedast and St James schools from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s.

At present, discussions are taking place between the new headmaster at St James, Mr David Boddy, and a group of complainants about the conduct of the Inquiry, the appointment of an Independent QC as Chairman, and other matters. Draft terms of reference for the Inquiry will be circulated to this group shortly.

It is hoped that outstanding points can be agreed before Christmas, and that the name of the chosen chairman can be announced early in the New Year. At that time, terms of reference will also be published.

I will be establishing an email account to which all those who wish to participate in the Inquiry can send their comments. In the meantime, any further correspondence on this subject should be sent to Mr Boddy.

The current proposal is that an Independent QC, assisted by a panel of advisers, will hear both complainants and responses over a five day period before Easter. The Governors of the Independent Education Association Limited intend to publish the Chairman's findings and recommendations.

Further updates will be posted as is appropriate.
