Response to the Inquiry report
The Inquiry?s findings of excessive use of corporal punishment, physical and mental mistreatment of pupils and ?criminal assault? by teachers at St James and St Vedast Schools finally vindicates those former pupils and parents who have long campaigned for the truth to be established.
The failings of the Governing Body of the Schools- and the finding that for 20 years the Schools were in fact directly run by the School of Economic Science (SES / SoES) ? raise significant questions for the Schools today.
The St James Schools have issued a statement accepting the Inquiry?s findings; they must now resolve to act on the findings. We call for immediate action including the resignation of Mr. Roger Pincham CBE, Chair of the Board of Governors since 1975. We hope that others will support us in this call.
We have issued a public statement with our full response to the inquiry and call for further resignations; this and a downloadable version of the Inquiry Report can be found at http://www.StJamesInquiry.org

If governors of a school have been found not have properly governed then their position becomes untenable. Under the circumstances Roger Pincham has no alternative but to resign, and other governors of the period (1975-1985) must also resign.
But while he should do the honourable thing it has to be recorded that Roger Pincham is a generous, liberal and humane man and his going should be marked with dignity not disgrace. He served the school loyally for many years. It's just a pity that he took the view - as he said himself - that the governors' job is to support the teachers. Nothing wrong in that, as it stands, but who then governs the teachers if the school governors do not do so?
We've seen the results of that lack of governance and good judgement. The report says that the governors could not govern properly because they were 'McLaren's people' and therefore subject to his writ.
That phrase is very telling.

Thankyou, PPIAG - I assume you are SESSA in a new incarnation. Your response to the inquiry report is excellent. Let's hope the school and SES take some notice of it and perform the actions you have suggested. Call me cynical but I think it's unlikely!
Up until reading it on your site I hadn't actually read the headteacher's response to the inquiry report, and it has actually made me feel sick. To describe the abuses the inquiry report details as "mistakes" of the sort that are made when "something new is underway", and that their former colleagues (ie the ones who abused us) were "pioneering" is frankly unbelievable.
Have you sent the link to your website to anyone in the press?

You're all stark raving mad
Hi Stanton

It is clearly irrellevant how nice and generous a man is, if his legal, professional and moral failings lead directly to the criminal abuse of children, causing lasting damage.
You SES people are all mad! you really are living in a parallel universe. You know that logo of the goldfish in a bowl on your snappy new website? take the fish out of the bowl and put yourselves in and you'd have an image that reflects the reality.
Your faith in your belief system is so blinding you really are idiots.
