In the defense of Debenham, perhaps he was alluding to heavy metal intoxication with lead, mercury, iron, copper, manganese, cadmium, arsenic, nickel, aluminum, silver, and beryllium.
Well I was listening to heavy rock before I joined the school, during the early years I was in the school (even skipped group to see Van Halen, AC/DC and Rush amongst others) and since I left the school. I'm still listening to it now (I'm 46). I've never taken drugs (though someone did spike my drink with 'E' once).
The 'metal' fans I know, don't partake of anything beyond cigarettes and alcohol.
