Are apologies really enough?

If you talk to most people who have been victims and are seeking reconciliation, they mostly want two things: Sincere apologies and then they want to see change to ensure that the wrongs can never be committed against anyone else.

Has the Pope done enough here? I don't know. A cynical side of me suggests that this is just PR, something that the pope can point to and say that he's dealt with it. Find me the investigative journalist who is prepared to challenge the pope for the lack or real action and say that it is easy to sit down with a few victims of abuse and be sympathetic, maybe even empathetic and yet afterwards nothing changes.
